About me

My name is Romain Tirole, I am a Research Fellow in Prof. Andrea Alù’s Photonics Initiative at the Advanced Science Research Center of the City University of New York. I just finished my PhD in the Complex Nanophotonics Research Group at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. Riccardo Sapienza, with Prof. Stefan Maier as my second supervisor.

I am an experimentalist with a strong theoretical background, having acquired experience in nanophotonics, nonlinear optics and optical modelling throughout my PhD and my various undergraduate research experiences.

My main topic of research is time-varying optics, that is studying the behaviour of light interacting with a medium whose properties change extremely fast in time. You can find more information about this on the Research tab.

I am also an active member of Optica and SPIE, and have organised many events with the Imperial College Optical Society. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to get in touch with me or my local Optics community!
