Nonlinear Dielectric Epsilon Near-Zero Hybrid Nanogap Antennas

We present here a new design of hybrid nanodisks, where a thin layer of Indium Tin Oxide is embedded in Gallium Phosphide, enhancing the electric field in what is dubbed a ‘nanogap’. We further demonstrate the fundamental limitations imposed by nonlinear optics, and suggest other promising avenues for these new resonators.

Double-slit time diffraction at optical frequencies

In this paper, we demonstrate double slit diffraction in time from an ultrafast time-varying mirror in the near-infrared. An intriguing result is the short rise time of the reflectivity of the sample, hinting at useful electron dynamics within the medium.

Excitingly, this publication received a wide press coverage! Here is a non-exhaustive list of published articles:

Saturable time-varying mirror based on an ENZ material

In this article, we study single-slit diffraction from an ultrafast time-varying mirror made of an Indium-Tin-Oxide/Gold bilayer, whose reflectivity is switched on ultrafast time scales by a laser pulse. We show that modulated probe spectra from time-diffraction reveal dynamics not present in conventional spectrally-integrated measurements, and confirm this with a four-wave-mixing experiment.

Photonics of time-varying media

This review goes deeply into details of the theoretical formalism of waves in time-varying media, with photonic media in mindset. The last section goes over promising avenues and emerging trends for experimental applications.

The paper was awarded Best 2022 Review Paper by Advanced Photonics! Congratulations to the lead author Emanuele and all the team!
